Explore Hardin County

April 2021; Part 1

Hello locals and friends! Last month, we celebrated the women-owned businesses of Hardin County. Since then, a quote that stuck with us is, “If everyone does a little, no one has to do a lot.”

We want to honor those doing more than their share of goodwill through their nonprofit organizations to help people like us every day.

Even if the Coronavirus pandemic has not affected you directly, chances are you personally know a few people who might still be hurting because of it.

Why should you consider partnering with a nonprofit organization?

There is a magical feeling that consumes your heart when you focus on helping others. That is a large part of why we began Explore Hardin County. We know that when we build others up, we see remarkable things happen for each other, which increases the value and joy to be found within our friends, family, and communities.

The more you volunteer your time, opening your heart and mind to new opportunities, you will build relationships and be more aware of life around you. As this blog will teach you about amazing resources you may need, getting plugged in with local nonprofits will expose you to fantastic resources you never knew existed! You will be able to share these resources with those in need and diversify your personal experiences.

Open Door Food Kitchen

Open Door Food Kitchen has been providing meals to those in need for over four years. Operating out of Vine Grove Methodist Church, they serve free sizable home-cooked meals in a restaurant environment. Every dollar donated is tax-deductible and provides $2 of food for families in need or who just need to get out and socialize in a joy-filled, friendly environment.

Pastor Dan Paddack invites you to partner with them in a number of ways! You can inquire about the help or resources they need by contacting Pastor Dan at 270–945–4997 or danpaddack@yahoo.com or send donations to P.O. Box 419 Vine Grove, KY 40175 or directly to Vine Grove Methodist Church at 306 High Street Vine Grove, KY 40175.

Love Out Loud (LOL)

Love Out Loud is another accomplished mobile organization based in Radcliff, Kentucky. Affiliated with Abundant Life Church, their mission is to ease the life of those in need in any way possible. They have four to six hands-on community events throughout the year. These will range from passing out meals to lawn care.

In our interview with Stacey Bonet, she recalled their struggles to adjust to the new COVID-19 regulations. Instead of having a set location for their food outreach, they packed up premade meals and went door-to-door, handing out food in select neighborhoods in need. Although it was not their most expansive reach, it was their most profound impact. Getting those one-on-one connections left a lasting effect on the Love Out Loud team and those they served.

To find ways to partner with LOL, contact Stacy Bonet at 270–351–9990 or head over to alcky.com, scroll down to their list of ministries, and click sign up to serve LOL. You can also connect through Abundant Life Church’s Facebook page.

Forever Homes For Paws

We all know someone who is constantly rescuing animals from a ditch or some abandoned house. You may be that someone. We surely have a couple of bleeding hearts on our team! The struggle to find homes for these rescues is real.

It is challenging to find no-kill shelters locally to get these precious fur babies warm, loving, forever homes. Radcliff City Councilwoman Toshie Murrell is passionate about changing the narrative for Hardin and surrounding counties’ animals.

She accepts rescue animals, vets them, and gets them all they need to be healthy, including food, shots, and emergency surgeries made possible through fundraising and donations. Although Forever Homes For Paws has a national adoption network, they enjoy their rescues staying local.

Partnering with this organization is simply loving on animals for as long as you’d like, donating supplies, or funding their efforts. Contact them through their Facebook page or at 270–801–5224.
